YHOO's Bartz Announces Reorg, CFO Departure

The Yahoo corporate blog

Yesterday CEO Carol Bartz of Yahoo announced the departure of CFO Blake Jorgensen from the company. She also divulged intentions to begin a company reorg, which speculators have expected for the past week.

In the blog post, titled "Getting our house in order," Bartz wrote:

[You'd] be amazed at how complicated some things are here.

So today I'm rolling out a new management structure that I believe will make Yahoo! a lot faster on its feet. For us working at Yahoo!, it means everything gets simpler. We'll be able to make speedier decisions, the notorious silos are gone, and we have a renewed focus on the customer. For you using Yahoo! every day, it will better enable us to deliver products that make you say, "Wow."

Bartz followed the blog post with an email to employees, where she encouraged them to "hang in there" despite the understadable "reorg fatigue" surrounding the beleaguered search firm.

In a research note on Thursday, UBS analyst Ben Schachter wrote, "We expect more significant restructurings and divestitures of various businesses will occur in the future as [Yahoo] focuses on its core businesses."

He also said Yahoo denied CFO Jorgensen's departure had anything to do with his claim at a recent investor conference that Yahoo remains open to a search deal with Microsoft.
