Russian publishing house Alisher Usmanov is negotiating a 10-20 percent stake in Russia's top search engine, Yandex, from both founding managers and via shares from its upcoming NASDAQ IPO.
Alisher Usmanov owns minority stakes in Mail.ru and SUP, which bought LiveJournal from American company Six Apart late last year, reports Quintura.
Yandex made $167 million in 2007 revenues and served 54 percent of all Russian search traffic in 1Q08. (Google was second, with 19 percent.) It is expected to release its $2 billion IPO this fall.
