Verizon and Yahoo are expected to launch today an inexpensive and only relatively high-speed DSL internet service to compete against dial-up and cable services, reports the AP. The service is priced at $14.95, with download speeds of up to 768 kilobits per second and uploads of 128 kbps. Verizon will continue to offer faster DSL for higher prices. The new service requires a one-year contract and offers Yahoo premium services such as antivirus protection, on-demand music videos and unlimited photo storage. SBC Communications launched a $14.95 DSL service with Yahoo in June with data transmission speeds of up to 1.5 megabits per second, or twice as fast as the new service by Yahoo and Verizon.
