When Houston's KPRC TV broke the news that pedophiles in Yahoo chat rooms were attempting to lure minors, several big-name advertisers pulled their ads even before the internet portal giant closed down the user-created chat rooms and stopped the creation of new ones, reports ClickZ. PepsiCo, State Farm Insurance, Countrywide Mortgage and T-Mobile were among those that pulled their ads from all Yahoo chat rooms after reporters informed that that their messages were being seen next to conversations about sex with minors.
Yahoo would not say how much ad inventory the removed content accounted for.
Pepsi has been a regular Yahoo advertiser for at least five years. A Pepsi spokesperson said its withdrawal did not extend to other areas of Yahoo.
