Yahoo announced on Tuesday the beta launch of Yahoo Autos Custom, a website for car enthusiasts who want to congregate online and share knowledge, featuring exclusive content as well as a searchable personalized gallery of cars, writes MediaWeek. Users can also search a thousand or auto-enthusiast sites and directory of more than a half million auto businesses.
Yahoo is going after a revved-up market for car-related advertising online. Earlier this year, Forbes.com launched ForbesAutos.com, and CNET launched a car technology site, Car Tech.
Honda Civic, Dodge Caliber and Volkswagen Passat have signed up as sponsors. Mitsubishi Motors is co-sponsoring a sweepstakes for a 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.
