Yahoo to Reorg as Execs Escape; Microsoft Goes Talent Fishing

Overworked revolving door
may also call it quits

Revolting shareholders, a foibled Microsoft partnership, surrender to Google, and the rage of Carl Icahn. For some of Yahoo's best, these may be more than enough reason to clock out for good.

Brad Garlinghouse, head of Yahoo's communications and communities group, is the latest exec to join a full-fledged exodus. Two more left with him: EVP Qi Lu of engineering for search and ad technology, and SVP Vish Makhijani, also of search.

This week, cofounders Caterina Fake and Stewart Butterfield of Flickr — which Yahoo purchased in 2005 — also left, following the departures of EVP Jeff Weiner, Yahoo's network division; and Jeremy Zawodny of the open source group.

TechCrunch published a spreadsheet to keep track of executive departures.

The ailing search company plans to integrate many of its offerings, including search, mail and its home page — under one team. Given its shrinking pool of talent, it may have no choice. Rumor has it CEO Jerry Yang may also abandon ship, says MediaPost.

Hoping to capitalize on Yahoo's ill fortune, Microsoft took out a full-page ad in the San Jose Mercury News this week. The headline reads, "Microsoft Has Search Jobs in the Valley."
