Yahoo Lands Search Deal with Grande Latin American Carrier

Making friends of big fish

Yahoo is partnering with Latin America's largest mobile phone company, America Movil, to provide mobile web services in 16 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.

According to Reuters, Yahoo's oneSearch service will become the default on Movil's wireless carriers' portals. Yahoo plans on rolling out localized versions of oneSearch for each region.

Mexico City-based America Movil has 143 million wireless subscribers. This is the largest of the 21 mobile search deals Yahoo has landed since launching oneSearch Stateside in January '07.

The mobile arena is enjoying a great deal of attention from search giants. While rival Google focuses on creating an open operating system for handhelds, Yahoo targets mobile ad deals.
