Yahoo, Google Race to Bring Search to In-Car Navigation Systems

Google and Yahoo have signed respective deals to improve in-car navigation services with search and commercial capabilities.

Yahoo's announcement expands on its partnership with Navteq. It will provide Yahoo Maps on devices in the 72 countries where Navteq operates, enabling users to get directions and conduct local searches.

Google inked a deal with Magellan that enables access of Google Local Search on navigation devices. The function will appear on Magellan 5340 devices, which operate on cellular connections.

Google Local Search provides local information, including business locations, movie listings and traffic updates.
