Yahoo Drops Music Service, Sends Customers to Rhapsody

Harmony in unexpected places

Yahoo has shut down its standalone music service and is sending customers to Rhapsody, reports The Associated Press.

Existing subscribers to Yahoo's Music Unlimited service will be switched over to Rhapsody. Playlists and other information will remain intact for an undefined period of time, but those that ultimately wish to keep their accounts must register a Rhapsody rate plan.

Yahoo says the move gives it more time to focus on ad-supported offerings that complement its other services.
