Yahoo Considers Enlisting with News Corp.

In perhaps another effort to either curb Microsoft's affections or drive its bid higher, Yahoo is considering a relationship with News Corp., an anonymous source divulged.

According to Reuters — which drew information from The Wall Street Journal, a News Corp. property — News Corp. is considering placing its internet assets, including MySpace.com, under Yahoo's care.

Per the terms of the deal, News Corp. and a private equity firm would purchase major shares in Yahoo to drive its market value above the $44.6 billion Microsoft offered to pay for it.

Yahoo turned down Microsoft's unsolicited bid on Monday, asserting the offer price was too low. Even with a potential News Corp. liaison in the works, the company may also consider partnerships or mergers with AOL or Google.

But News Corp. may be the lesser evil among Yahoo's array of options. It is not a direct competitor in the search engine or internet/mobile advertising market.

Last week Rupert Murdoch said News Corp. had no interest in buying Yahoo outright.
