Xerox will be making its debut into the search engine arena with a new functionality called FactSpotter, which can read natural human phrases and seek results that include synonyms and pronouns within a document, reports Forbes.
Typical search engines investigate only 40 percent of relevant documents in the course of a query, simply because myriad keyword possibilities are left unaccounted-for. FactSpotter allegedly knows a search made for statements by "Bill Gates" could easily be satisfied with results featuring "Microsoft Chairman" or even "he." FactSpotter can also distinguish between things said by and to Mr. Gates.
Xerox has decided to leave online search to an already full tank of cannibalistic competitors, however. Internet users will reportedly have little or no access to FactSpotter for years.
Xerox will be bundling FactSpotter in enterprise software packs for Global Services consumers, beginning with attorneys and paralegals, eventually targeting the banking and healthcare industries.
