Xbox Live Opens to Third-Party Game Developers

At the annual Game Developers Conference, Microsoft announced it would allow members of its Xbox Live broadband service to play, rate and share community-created games.

User created games will double the size of the Xbox 360 game library to 1,000 by the end of 2008, according to a release.

Games can be built on Microsoft's XNA Game Studio software. They must undergo a peer-review process and will be evaluated for accuracy in representation and appropriateness.

Amateur developers whose games are accepted will serve an Xbox Live audience of 10 million.
