In the ongoing quest of newspapers to find a happy medium (so to speak) between free or for-a-fee content online, the Wall Street Journal will be offering up more free stuff, particularly to bloggers. The move is intended to attract links and potential subscribers - and WSJ has appointed former staffer Carl Bialik as its free-content editor - writes PaidContent, pointing to a FishBowl NY posting.
Whereas earlier this week the New York Times announced plans to charge for more of its now mostly free online content, WSJ.com has been selectively offering some stories to bloggers, particularly during and since the presidential elections, in an effort to showcase its stories.
The move has generated momentum, and now WSJ will be trying a targeted approach, by offering specific content areas to bloggers who are interested in various categories of content.
