Influential World Citizens Just Not Happy with Big Corporations

The mob is educated, influential
...and angry

Most of the world's most engaged citizens say large companies wield too much influence on government decisions.

Furthermore, they want aggressive action against the activities and influence of national and multinational corporations, according to a new Ipsos survey.

The poll of 22,000 people, covering 22 of the world's leading and burgeoning powerhouse economies, finds the most active, connected and engaged global citizens put global and national corporations at risk of government intervention and tighter regulation.

Other findings of the Ipsos poll:

  • Three-fourths (74 percent) say large companies have too much influence on decisions of their government.
  • Almost as many (72 percent) say their government should be more aggressive in regulating activities of national and multinational corporations.
  • The majority (69 percent) say large companies are more powerful than governments.
  • The majority (58 percent) believe government should have complete access to private information of corporations doing business in their country.
  • Half (52 percent) say their big industry should be controlled by government, other half (48 percent) disagree.
  • The majority (52 percent) say government regulation is too little to protect rights of workers in their country.
  • Nevertheless, most (55 percent) believe that major corporations are having a good influence in their country.
