World Series Notwithstanding, Chevy Also Goes for the Novel With Sonic Campaign

The Chevrolet division of General Motors celebrated its 100th anniversary in the most traditional ad venue - outside of the Super Bowl - imaginable: the first game of the 2011 World Series.

The commercial, "Then and Now," by Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, part of the Omnicom Group, is a multimedia commemoration of the 100 years of the Chevrolet brand. [video].

Launching the Chevy Sonic

At the same time, Chevy has also launched its newest car, a compact auto called the Sonic. Here too, Goodby, Silverstein & Partners’ hand was at work, creating a live live stunt by hoisting a Chevy Sonic to the top of a 100 foot tower in Los Angeles. The stunt streamed live at Let’sDoThis.com. Viewers were urged to 'click' to push the Sonic closer to the edge. The final, 2.4 millionth or so click eventually pushed it over where it was caught by bungee cables attached to a hydraulic crane.
