Wikia Search Launches to Scathing Reviews

Wales exercises patience

Since its January 7 launch, Wikia Search has garnered low marks from vocal critics. Business Week laments it went live too early.

Oddly enough, the new search engine — launched by Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales — doesn't even turn up Wikipedia entries, which often appear at the top of Google's organic searches.

TechCrunch calls Wikia an "inexcusable waste of time," while SearchEngineLand dubbed it just "another crappy search service."

For now the site is "little more than an ordinary algorithm-driven search engine" that allows users to create profiles and connect with like-minded surfers.

Wales has asked that critics and users show a little patience.
