Wii Workout Station Added to Vancouver Gym

Working out Wii way

A Canadian gym has added a Wii workout station for people to run, punch, jump and burn calories  in ecstatic gameplay.

According to Reuters, Nathan Mellalieu, the owner of Studeo 55 in Vancouver, estimates that one session with a Wii is comparable to a brisk walk and can burn up to 125 calories. Furthermore, a study by the Liverpool John Moores University in England found regular use can burn 1,830 calories per week.

The system is set up in a 400 square-foot theater room complete with a large projection screen, where members can play Wii games such as Boxing, Tennis and Bowling.

And this is just the beginning: Nintendo will launch Wii Fit in 2008, a video game that comes with a new peripheral allowing players to do activities such as yoga and aerobics.
