Facebook has just announced successful development of a network partnerships with major media, e-commerce and other companies who will create widgets for the site, reports MediaWeek.
The announcement was made at the same conference where Facebook opened up site to developers of all sizes. An Amazon widget will enable users to put book reviews and purchase links on their profile. CollegeHumor and uPlayMe will make for easy embedding and sharing of niche content on profiles.
Facebook maintains a broad distance from MySpace in terms of sheer traffic, but it is growing significantly faster than the News Corp-owned social network. This is due in part to Facebook's openness about enabling third party widgets, a topic about which MySpace is less permissive.
