CNET's photo-sharing property Webshots will now let users post video clips to their photo albums, and Intel is sponsoring the launch of the new service.
Webshots will create a new channel to house videos at video.webshots.com, which Intel will sponsor, ClickZ reports. Webshots editors will pick certain videos to feature on the page, based on which are being shared. Intel's involvement includes a branded page and additional branding throughout the site.
Pre- and post-roll ads will appear on the video channel and sponsored pages - but not clips within members' photo albums. Videos go through a vetting process, which is one way CNET will try to soothe wary advertisers.
The video-sharing enhancement garnered mixed reactions from Webshots users after the site introduced the video functionality with two clips from Intel's U.S. Media Manager Thom Campbell, leading several users to post skeptical comments.
But that apparently doesn't concern Martin Green, SVP of community for CNET: "If you're watching a video from Intel, it's not as intimate, not as easy to understand why videos are on the site. The minute you get an invitation from a family member…that will change your mind."
