Leads the list
Adweek is launching an annual "Web Site Hot List" of the most successful online destinations for users and advertisers, according to Mediaweek (via I Want Media and MediaBuyerPlanner). The first top 10 list is led by Weather.com, Forbes.com, MySpace, Nick.com, and BusinessWeek Online.
Using data from Nielsen/NetRatings AdRelevance on approximately 400 sites, Adweek limited the pool to ad-supported websites that create much of their own content, with a unique audience in June 2005 of at least 1 million users.
Then an Adweek Magazines SWAT team narrowed the field, basing its choices on subjective characteristics, asking questions such as these: What sites excited online media executives as places to spend? What sites had great content but fell short in the types of ad models they could offer marketers? What sites simply had another strong year as opposed to those who may be pointing the web in yet another new direction?
