Media giant Clear Channel just rolled out a handful of social networks built around respective radio stations, reports BillBoard.
Powered by Onesite.com, each social networking site will fall under the management of a station, which will target its own broadcast community. While demographics differ, all stations will share a common format.
Clear Channel hopes the connections that can result from social networking will increase station loyalty, a challenge the conglomerate has been struggling with.
The stations will sell local ads on the social sites. Users can create MySpace-style profiles stocked with chat and other capabilities in addition to streaming radio. 12 stations will comprise the first social networking batch, with five more slated to join in June.
