"Oh,
no!"
A British energy conservation group has said new high tech devices are drawing more and more power, reports The Globe & Mail.
The report from Britain's Energy Savings Trust assesses both the significant power required by new gadgets, as well as the fact so many of them are rarely shut down, often left on a perpetual "standby" mode.
These practices draw, and potentially waste, massive amounts of energy. The report predicts consumer electronic will soon overtake kitchen appliances and lighting as the greatest draw on power supplies.
Larger TVs require more power than their predecessors and people aren't getting rid of older devices, meaning they sometimes have old energy-inefficient and new energy-hungry devices running at the same time. The rise in the number of gadget-filled single occupancy households is also leading to more energy consumption.
