Warner's Mobile Content Deals Expand Its Global Reach

Warner Music has partnered with a pair of major mobile operators to deliver its mobile music content to Europe and the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia.

The deals are with Egypt's Orascom Telecom and Norwegian telecom group Telenor, Reuters reports. The Orascom deal will allow Warner to deliver its catalog of mobile products, such as ringtones and full-track downloads, in Algeria, Bangladesh, Italy, Pakistan, Tunisia and Egypt, among others.

The deal with Telenor will provide mobile content to nine of Telenor's 13 mobile operators, in countries such as Norway, Sweden, Ukraine and Hungary. Warner's move overseas is the latest example of music labels' attempting to enter into areas that are seeing declining physical music sales, due mainly to piracy.

The music label has already signed similar mobile deals in Japan, South Korea, Russia, China and Latin America. Warner says mobile carriers can succeed in many of these markets as mobile vendors, since their networks are private and less vulnerable to piracy.
