Sorry HD DVD, Warner's Just Not that Into You

Total knockout

Warner has announced its intention to drop Toshiba's HD DVD in favor of Blu-Ray, Sony's rival format.

Five of the seven major studios in Hollywood already support Blu-ray, while Universal and Paramount back HD DVD.

An analyst from Data Mobility Group told PC World Toshiba has lost the "format war," a battle over which technology will replace DVDs in the near future. Having won most of Hollywood, Sony is adding Blu-ray readability to the Playstation 3 console.

Holding fast to its territory, Toshiba announced it has already sold 1 million HD DVD recorders in North America. Sony sold 1.2 million Blu-ray-equipped Playstation 3 units over the holiday season alone.
