It seems that the Los Angeles Times experiment with "wikitorials" was pulled as soon as it had been pushed on an unsuspecting public, but not on the "ignorant, thin-skinned, tenacious legions of online trolls" who flooded the wikitorial with "inappropriate material" - surely not surprisingly, writes Amy Gahran on a Poynter blog post. Perhaps an extension of the "wikinews" concept, the idea was that the LA Times would post an editorial on its website, and readers would go in to alter it, as they do with the online Wikipedia. The idea didn't work - but it certainly got press. So maybe it worked after all (via techdirt).
