Vudu to Bring Any Movie to Living Rooms Instantly

A new box is eager to invade living rooms across the country. Called Vudu, its ultimately goal is to allow people to rent or buy a massive pool of films directly to the TV instantly without any kind of download delay, reports The New York Times.

However, Vudu still has challenges ahead. For starters, movie delivery in the digital age is highly competitive: a host of movie downloading services are available online and other whirring living room boxes, like Apple's iTV and Slingbox, are already inviting users to beam content from their computers into the living room.

Further Vudu's cost ($300, plus $6 to $10 per download) may thwart a lot of moviephiles. However Vudu believes boxes like the iTV are too complicated for the average user and that DVD-by-mail service Netflix is like, "settling for a meal of worms in the desert."
