A launch party that was supposed to build excitement for Microsoft's Vista instead led to headaches as some Vista users found out the hard way that the new operating system doesn't work well with Second Life, CNET reports.
Vista launched on Jan. 30 with various celebratory events, including the party in Second Life - but many Vista users discovered that they couldn't access the virtual world because they had upgraded to the new system. Engineers at Linden Labs, the company behind Second Life, are working on a fix, which they hope to make available in the next few weeks.
Linden Labs makes money when its users buy and sell virtual items in the online world. If users of Vista - likely to become as ubiquitous as previous Microsoft operating systems - cannot access the world, Linden Labs would lose revenue.
The Jan. 30 Second Life launch party for Vista included a streaming concert of rave musician Praga Khan and was promoted at several locations within the virtual world.
