Despite pressure not to, a Russian court has ordered Visa to process payments made to AllofMP3.com, reports ArsTechnica.
The judgment from the court comes shortly after AllofMP3.com was shut down by Russian authorities. But the court said that because the site was not actually found guilty of any crime, Rosbank - Visa's partner in Russia - has no reason not to honor purchases made. It must therefore pay in full for the music people bought off the site.
This could open the floodgates for Visa to make payments to other sites that offer music via illegitimate means for a fraction of the cost of purchase from official vendors. Such sites may also be encouraged to continue what they're doing and, even if shut down, seek means to recoup the revenue.
