Yahoo is today releasing a finalized version of its video search engine, after five months of beta, report CNET and NetImperative. It will also be announcing alliances with CBS News, MTV, Reuters, music videos from Country Music Television, MTV.com and VH1.com, and movie clips and trailers from IFILM.com - among others - to include their video clips within its searchable database.
Video search has become yet another front in the search engine wars. Google announced on Tuesday a series of TV alliances, including with the Discovery Channel and CNN. Smaller players have also joined the action.
Broadband adoption is driving appetite for video online, in turn necessitating the ability to search through the vast volume of video becoming available. However, both Yahoo and Google have yet to develop a business model that makes sense for broadcasters, advertisers and their operations.
