Wolf, peering at
more jail time
Josh Wolf, the video blogger jailed for refusing to turn over video of a political protest, has now set a record for being being the longest-incarcerated journalist, reports the New York Times.
The case revolves around raw video that Wolf shot of an anticapitalist rally in 2005 where a small explosive went off, slightly injuring a police officer and damaging a police squad car. Wolf has refused to turn that video over to prosecutors, though portions of it can be found at his website, JoshWolf.net.
Although the San Francisco District Attorney has now dismissed all charges against the arrested protesters, Wolf remains in prison.
Wolf's status as a journalist has been questioned, and the judge on the case is skeptical. Wolf's lawyer has attempted to establish him as a journalist based on Wolf's selling video of the protest to television stations.
The previous record holder for a prison term by a journalist is Vanessa Leggett. In 2001 and 2002 Leggett spent 168 in jail for refusing to turn over information related to a murder case.
