Viacom Sets Eyes on Bebo

Media group Viacom is reportedly considering a bid for social-networking site Bebo.

Viacom, which lost the bidding war to News Corp. for MySpace, now the world's leading social networking site, is apparently making another attempt to gain a foothold in social networking realm, reports the Financial Times. Bebo has far fewer users than MySpace or Facebook, but it is number one in Ireland and neck-and-neck with MySpace in the U.K., and claims 25 million registered users, compared with 90 million or so for MySpace.

Michael Birch, founder and chief executive of San Francisco-based Bebo, told the FT his company was still growing rapidly and he was in no hurry to sell.
