Verizon SuperPages to expand into Self-Serve PPC

MediaPost: Verizon To Make Pages Even More Super, Slates Directory Overhaul

The success of Google's local search results, as well as the success of self-serve pay-per-click (PPC) search advertising, must have been too much for Verizon. They finally launched their own PPC product. Even their slow move entry into self-service PPC turned out to be faster than most of their yellow pages competition. It will be interesting to see how the monthly charges will compare to what advertisers are paying now (generally in a fixed monthly per category contract).

As search engine marketeers look forward to the launch, set for March 1, there remain lots of questions still unanswered. Verizon will soon reveal whether each locality and category will have its own auction, as well as billing options, which may range from phone bills, insertion order or credit card.
