Telecom provider Verizon is offering a free digital supermarket coupon service for its wireless and FiOS TV customers. Customers can obtain Verizon SpendSmart digital coupons via wireless phone, TV or computer. Verizon is providing this service through a partnership with online mobile coupon network Cellfire. The coupons can be used at more than 20 grocery chains nationwide, including ShopRite, Safeway and Kroger, with coupon brands and products rotating every two weeks.
Supermarket Retailers Discover Online Coupons
Verizon is tapping into a vertical trend as increasingly supermarket retailers are turning to online coupons to entice customers to visit their stores, writes RetailerDaily. The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company (A&P) is partnering with Coupons.com to offer online coupon galleries on several of its banner websites. HyVee, Inc. is expanding the multichannel online service capabilities available on its web site, allowing customers to shop the inventory of local stores, create shopping lists and locate coupons.
Hyper Local
Verizon's new offering is also piggybacking on the digital hyper-local ad and coupon trend. Money Mailer, for instance, recently refined its targeting capabilities to offer text notification for such local businesses as neighborhood restaurants. These companies use the service to send text messages to customers during special promotional periods and slow sales days, among other messages.
