ZDNet: Craving For 'Clicks' Bogs Down Search

Stephanie Olsen writes on ZDNet about the burgeoning practice of highjacking web users and redirecting them in a clandestine manner. VeriSign recently backed down from its practice of redirecting users who mistyped an address to its SiteFinder page. But just last week, some users trying to reach Google were unwittingly re-directed by a software hack to an ad-laced alternative search engine. Sketchy entities are beginning to realize the commercial value of search engine traffic and have started to kidnap it in nefarious ways.
