Video site Veoh has released an update of its browser plugin, Veo Video Compass.
Available for Firefox 3 and Internet Explorer 7, Video Compass gives users a changing array of videos related to search queries they conduct and pages they visit. The videos appear a stream at the top of their browsers.
Clips are gleaned from Veoh — whose videos are prioritized — and YouTube. Users may play the media directly from the stream.
Google, Yahoo and other major search engines are currently supported by Video Compass, which is also adding contextual matching capabilities — that is, functionality that identifies keywords on content pages. At present, the feature works on selected pages within Best Buy, Amazon, WalMart, Wikipedia, and IMDB.com, reports TechCrunch.
In addition to the updated plugin, Veoh launched a homepage that provides much the same service: recommending videos based on how users navigate other media. A selection of videos are also available on iPhone.
In July 2008, Veoh debuted a behavioral targeting ad system for online videos.
