Venerable Firm AdWare Abandons Name Tainted by Others

As expected, ValueClick's massive agency-side ad trafficking software firm AdWare Systems will change its name, skittering away from negative associations brought on by the increasingly common use of "adware" to mean spyware and other software gunk that surreptitiously makes its way onto computers, spawning pop-ups, slowing system performance and worse. AdWare Systems has nothing to do with either adware, or the spyware, trojans and other devices that have become associated with it. The firm will be merged with sister division MediaPlex and adopt that name, according to MediaPost.
