UTA Exec Leaves to Head Digital Content Startup

In the latest in a series of such moves, United Talent Agency exec Brett Weinstein has left the firm to head a Web video startup, reports Variety.

The company Weinstein will now lead is 60Frames, which distributes video from top Hollywood talent online. 60Frames is actually the lovechild of long-held frustration within UTA Online over the process of signing distribution deals.

While no deals have been finalized by 60Frames, the firm has big name producers already lined up: The Coen Brothers. The pair, along with other UTA clients, will be the first to produce content fo 60Frames to distribute.

The new company has the financial backing of UTA, a couple of venture capital firms and SpotRunner. SpotRunner specializes in allowing customers to create TV ads that can be targeted and distributed based on geographic and demographic data.

60Frames will seek to monetize the content through a combination of consumer payments and in-video ads. It enters a crowded field, with a number of start-ups adopting a similar business model. FunnyOrDie was recently launched by comedian Will Ferrell and director Adam McCay. And former Disney CEO Michael Eisner recently launched Vuguru, which produces and distributes the successful online series Prom Queen.
