CNET: Lawsuit claims free speech for online casino ads
A gambling information site challenged in court the U.S. Justice Department's threatening of gambling sites and media companies with possible criminal penalties if they used the web to advertise gambling products. Casino City filed the case in a Louisiana federal court, arguing that not all gambling is illegal, and that banning advertising would be a violation of speech rights. Offshore casinos find about half of their customers coming from the U.S., where placing bets online is illegal in most but not all states. Responding to pressure, many major media companies stopped accepting online casino ads in the past few months.
