U.S. Army: Just Kidding about the $200MM Review

The U.S. Army decided, after already delaying a review decision by six months, that it would cancel its $200 MM account review after all, according to AdAge. The six agencies that wasted months and hundreds of thousands of dollars were cautioned last summer by at least one trade rag that the process was merely one of those statutory, pro forma reviews that government agencies often must do simply to comply with the law.

The Army informed the pitching agencies today of the decision by fax. It indicated the review would be re-solicited from scratch.

The optimistic agencies involved in the attempt to take the account from a well-ensconced Leo Burnett incumbent were McCann Erickson, Y&R, O&M, Grey and BBDO.

The contract would run for one year, with the possibility of three extensions.
