The cyberattack that Estonia suffered last May, culminating in a massive distributed denial-of-service attack on the country's major websites, has spawned some response from the US, reports ArsTechnica.
The US has sent an investigative team to Estonia to help analyze a large volume of data generated by the attacks to help train Estonian IT workers in securing the country's network. Estonia will also set up a "Cyber Command" to prepare it for future assaults.
Estonia believes the attack was launched by the Russian government in response to Estonia's removal of a Russian statue, but there are conflicting accounts surrounding the culprit. Regardless, the Estonian incident may go down in history as the first ever "cyberwar" between nations.
One positive component of the "cyberwar" was the immediate response from other nations. NATO member nations came to Estonia's aid during the assault. And Estonia has completely opened its doors to other countries looking to examine the cache of data produced during the attack.
