US Broadband Growth Declines in Q2

887,000 new high-speed internet subscribers were added to the 20 top US cable and telephone companies in the three months ending June 30 — half the new subscriber rate of 2Q07, reports Leichtman Research Group, Inc., via the Associated Press. 76 percent of new business went to cable companies.

Subscriber decline was attributed to market saturation, a weak economy and the decision of phone companies AT&T and Verizon to emphasize faster, costlier services over entry-level DSL.
