Graphics International: LO-FI ALLSTARS (PDF Scan) Or Text Copy
I threw my toys yesterday, going off on one about how clueless the advertising industry is when it comes to website design. This outburst was triggered by the following press release: ABSOLUT Captures International Advertising Awards which announced that Absolut's website had won the Epica Awards 2002, and worst, a Bronze Lion at Canne.
So why did this upset me so much? Well because Absolut.com is a self congratulatory load of flash design bollocks. Any site that opens FULL SCREEN deserves to be ridiculed not rewarded. As the saying goes "IT IS NOT 1999." Unbelievable, clowns the lot of them.
Anyway, I was cheered up this morning on seeing that the latest addition of Graphics International includes a great feature on undesign. The article is a classic, throwing the cat right in amongst the over-design net-ignorant pigeons.
The piece discusses the thinking behind undesign, suggesting that it is about to make its way into the mainstream. It includes quotes from web famous designer Jason Kottke, b3ta owner Rob Manuel, online agency chairman Jon Bains and viral marketing specialist Justin Kirby.
