U.K. Retailers Slow to Adopt Online Advertising

New research from U.K. research firm E-consultancy on attitudes toward e-commerce among FTSE 500 companies has found that 50 percent of U.K. retailers spend less than 5 percent of their marketing-communications budgets on internet strategy, with only one in eight companies spending more than 20 percent on e-marketing. Some 67 percent of U.K. retailers spend at least 90 percent of their budgets offline. One

in five firms outsource paid-search marketing, whereas one in three don't do it at all, and 5 percent of companies don't do any organic search optimization. Some 35 percent of companies don't do any online display advertising, 20 percent don't bother with paid-search advertising, and 25 percent avoid affiliate marketing.
