Subsumed in the tweet
Twitter purchased Summize, a search engine that indexes Twitter posts. Summize's five engineers will join the Twitter team; founder Jay Verdy will depart.
According to Twitter co-founder Biz Stone, Summize's brand, service and API will be integrated with Twitter.
"We will be adding search and its related features to the core offering of Twitter in the very near future," Stone wrote. "In the meantime, everyone is welcome to access search.twitter.com—there's no need for a Twitter account."
The acquisition was rumored to have totaled $15 million in cash and Twitter stock.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos joined Spark Capital in giving Twitter a cash infusion last June. The company said it would use most of the money to support its back-end transition from Ruby on Rails, but in early July rumors swirled that it would purchase Summize.
