Twitter, which has been planning to expand its presence on iOS devices, is reaching out to its developer community for assistance, according to a blog post by executive chairman Jack Dorsey. In the post, Dorsey tells developers that Apple and Twitter are moving to deeper integration and he wants to give the ecosystem the necessary tools and resources to build these apps.
"I'd like to ask for your candid feedback. We want to know what additional materials you need from us to help you build products, boost distribution and expand your reach," he writes. "With Apple’s upcoming deep integration of Twitter into iOS 5, there is an opportunity for us, together, to take the ecosystem to a new level."
Many Paths to Monetization
In general, Twitter is pushing forward with monetization strategies. It is expanding an ad format that it introduced in July with its Promoted Tweets. As part of the expansion, Twitter will analyze the followers of a given company's feed, then send ads to those users who aren't following, but have similar interests and friend lists, All Things D reported.
The Apple Goldmine
This latest push - that is, what appears to be a doubling down on Apple - is also likely to prove beneficial for developers and Twitter. Consider the recent stats on game app sales for Apple. According to Flurry, in June 2011, 65% of the revenue from the top 100 mobile games in Apple’s U.S. App Store was generated by freemium games.
