TV Guide has announced it would launch an online video award franchise to recognize "the best and most innovative professional video programming, created specifically for the Web," according to a recent press release.
The Online Video Awards will honor content that appeared online or across other digital media between January and October 2007. Its audience will be able to vote in some categories through www.tvguide.com and over mobile phones; TV Guide will select the victors for other categories.
Winners will be honored at a live event in Los Angeles, CA this December. The network will air exclusive two-hour coverage, slated to include red carpet interviews and complete award information.
The effort will benefit from promotion across a number of cross-platform resources owned by the brand, which spans 73 million unique consumers per week.
It is not immediately clear what type of online efforts constitute as "professional video programming."
