TubeMogul, a video deployment, syndication and tracking site based in Berkeley, has acquired Flash player analytics firm Illumenex.
The merger broadens the data tracking offerings available to TubeMogul's existing clients — which total about 40,000, ranging from individuals to networks and studios like CBS.
TubeMogul provides a free service that enables video producers to upload videos to over 20 video sharing sites almost at once. It then tracks views, comments and ratings across those properties. For a fee, demographics and other audience data can also be monitored, according to Search Engine Land.
Meanwhile, Illumenex boasts an array of patent-pending tools that quantify user engagement with Flash-based online videos. Data includes how much of a video is watched, the most popular segments of a video, which sites or search terms referred a user, and when a user "bounces" (or clicks out of the site).
Metrics are granulated to an individual video basis, but Illumenex also tracks site-wide. Its clients include Revision3 and comedy destination eBaum's World.
