Trion Gets Big Media Co. Support

Videogame company Trion has received a new round of funding and the backing of a number of large media companies, reports Variety.

The company has secured $30 million in a second round of venture capital funding as it moves toward a worldwide launch sometime next year.

Trion was founded as an avenue to distribute video games via broadband networks in a structured way that resembles a TV program's season. That differs from the current pattern of games that get released all at once, with add-ons that follow down the road.

Trion has received the backing of Time Warner, NBC Universal and Betelsmann. The three companies are hoping to learn something about the video game industry through the investment. They're also eyeing Trion as a potential distribution outlet for their own content.
