The NFL Internet Network had a strong showing during the opening weekend of the NFL season, posting a 28 percent increase in web traffic over the same time period in 2005.
Traffic was up 28 percent this year after increasing by 27 percent last year during opening weekend, Nielsen/Net Ratings reports. Dallas Cowboys (7.6 percent), Cincinnati Bengals(6.2 percent) and Green Bay Packers(5.5 percent) fans accounted for the top sources of traffic.
NFL.com controlled 4.9 percent of the online sports and recreation-based advertising market in December 2005, compared with 1.8 percent for NBA.com in June of this year, 4.6 percent for MLB.com in June as well, and 0.9 percent for NHL.com in October of 2005.
