Top E-tailers Heed Email Opt-Out Terms

According to the results of a Federal Trade Commission survey released yesterday, most top online merchants are complying with opt-out provisions of CAN-SPAM, reports DM News. The FTC created three e-mail addresses and registered each address to receive email promotions, offers and newsletters from 100 top retailers; it then sent those retailer opt-out messages from each address. Of the 100 retailers, 89 stopped sending emails to all three addresses, and 93 stopped emailing to at least one of the accounts. All of the merchants were in compliance with the requirement to display opt-out notices in their marketing emails.
